Alpine Dog (TM)
Alpine Dog (TM)
My pack was built with many different personalities. These dogs have built my business and fueled my fire to succeed in this business. Since Brick Approved K9 Performance began, my business has evolved because of experience and being taught each and every day by these dogs. Brick also evolved into a different dog. He's older and wiser now. We as a team have pushed through many difficult situations, but it's always the entire pack that keeps the glue together. I decided in October of 2019 to give credit to our whole support system and change the name to our business. This gave Brick the ability to step down from a pedestal that he didn't necessarily love being on all the time. It shifted the responsibility to hold our pack together on my own, and gave Brick the freedom to just be a dog, not our pack leader. Just like that, we all became Alpine Dog.
A tired dog is a happy dog and so is their human! Our Adventure Team isn't only about physically exercising your dog. There is a significant amount of training involved with dog camp, and the enrichment that your dog gets from being with us is invaluable to his or her temperament. This will leave your dog both mentally and physically fulfilled.
I run our Adventure Team on Tuesdays and Fridays. Some days fluctuate to accommodate for weather and board and train clientele.
The Alpine Dog Aventure Team is walked on private land to assure safety and allow for more freedom for hours on end.
Dogs hike an average of 4-5 miles on each excursion (2 - 2.5 total hours). This includes hiking in deep forests, sugar woods, running in open fields and swimming until the waters freeze! We hike year round. I rarely cancel camp days!!
I pick up dogs in Colchester, Burlington, South Burlington, Shelburne, Charlotte, Williston, Essex, Essex Jct. Huntington, Richmond, Westford, Jericho and Underhill. We have many dogs from out of our pick up range that meet us along our route as well!
There are rules and regulations as to what dogs would be good candidates for dog camp. We are zero tolerance for any type of aggression, more specifically any past history of aggression with other dogs or any type of resource guarding. Your dog must be able to ride in close quarters with other dogs in the car for a lengthy amount of time.
Your dog must also allow me to handle their faces, mouths paws etc, if an injury were to happen out in the woods, I want to be able to address it quickly and efficiently.
My pack is carefully hand picked. I integrate each dog into the full group slowly, so they can all be successful and remain safe while together. We want your dog to have positive experiences every time they are out with us.
This is an entire day excursion. We leave at 9am and arrive back home by 5pm in the evening. They need to know when to be chill and when they can let loose. This comes from my leadership and their listening and engagement skills. When we have a long day like this, we all need to work together as a team. That comes from building trust with each other and following our more experienced pack members.
We will do a meet and greet with Brick and Fury first. I often require a trial period where I work your dog with the other dogs from my pack in a controlled social setting. This trial period will continue for at least a month, where we will start doing trial camp outings until I feel like your dog is ready to go out for the full day. I may require additional private training so we can get your dog in a position so that he can come out with us full time and I can be confident with his safety.
Proof of current rabies and DHPP are mandatory for all adult dogs. Bordetella (canine cough) and Leptosporosis is highly recommended for group settings and Adventure Team members.
Puppies must be at least 10-12 months of age to become a team member.
Questionnaire and release agreement also required.
In the case of extreme weather, VT Alpine Dog reserves the right to cancel any services that would put the health and safety of ourselves and our clients at risk. This includes temperatures below 5 degrees (wind chill is considered) and extreme storm situations that will include lightning or blizzard conditions.
